What is Sildenafil Oral Tablets 100mg?
Sildenafil is popularly known in its brand name of Viagra. This phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) by helping increase blood flow into the penis to allow for erection.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence is said to affect about 140 million men worldwide. Some causes of impotence may be medical such as diabetes and neurological, urological or circulatory conditions while others may be psychogenic.
Sildenafil is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It is popularly known by its brand name, Viagra.
Mechanism of Action:
Sildenafil works by increasing the blood flow into the penis, thus helping achieve as well as maintain erection during sexual stimulation. It also decreases the pressure in pulmonary arteries in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. It inhibits the PDE5 enzyme to prevent destroying the cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) which is responsible for the erection. The Sildenafil allows cGMP to persist longer for a prolonged penis engorgement.
When Not to Use Sildenafil Oral Tablets 100mg:
An allergy to any ingredient in Sildenafil is reason enough not to take the drug. Other factors include heart problems, taking of nitrates such as isosorbide or nitroglycerin or nitroprusside, use of recreational drugs or other PDE5 inhibitors.
Some medical conditions prohibit you from taking Sildenafil. These are allergies to medicines or foods, deformed penis, blood cell problems such as leukemia, sickle cell anemia and multiple myeloma, history of prolonged or painful erection, history of eye problems such as macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, optic neuropathy or sudden vision loss, hearing problems, history of kidney problem, liver problem, heart attack, stroke or serious irregular heartbeat.
Some users of Sildenafil may experience diarrhea, flushing, headache, dizziness, stuffy nose, upset stomach or heartburn. If you have heart-related problems, it may increase your risk for heart attack or stroke. The drug may rarely cause a painful or prolonged erection. If you experience this condition even if you are not having sex, consult your doctor immediately as it may lead to permanent sexual problems.
